James is Chairman of Chris Lee & Partners.
James began his career in investment banking and has more than 25 years of experience across capital markets and financial services. During his career, he has led businesses spanning risk trading, institutional trading and research, fixed income, currencies and commodities. In 2016, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Jarden.
His particular expertise is in understanding a company’s strategy and aligning it with the long term requirements of investors and capital markets. He has worked with and advised boards and management teams ranging from pre revenue start ups through to major corporations and governments, across industries including biotechnology, technology, healthcare and financial services.
During his time at Jarden, James led the firm’s expansion, rebrand and strategic refocus, including the establishment and growth of Jarden Australia. Jarden subsequently developed into a leading trans Tasman investment bank.
James believes successful organisations begin with a considered strategy, clear structure and the right resources to execute. Over the longer term, he sees alignment between stakeholders and clear, consistent communication as central to sustainable success.
He also believes strongly in continuous learning and that difficult periods often provide the most valuable lessons. As a leader, his approach is to bring together people with varied strengths, surround them with high calibre colleagues, and give them the support and autonomy to achieve their potential.
